news

we are tentatively dipping our toes into the bottomless pool of microblogging. as we primarily deal with images and not words our posts will be mostly images, photos and links to things we like and inspire us. it might be interesting, it might not. who can say. you can follow us here.

lovely bubbly...
ovaltine

we have also just finished a very nice job for laterooms.com. we melted several quite expensive computers getting it finished and lost about a fortnight in sleep but it was worth it in the end. you can read more about it in the commercials section.

we've been mugged!
ovaltine

no, not really. we have however finally gotten round to updating the website.

it has been a very busy past few months. ubik has a new member, so we would like to welcome stanley into the fold. at 55 centimetres long and with only 15 weeks experience (of life) under his belt he is struggling to master his wacom pen, but we are hopeful that a breakthrough is imminent.

we have also managed to do some new work, a series of 8 break bumpers for ovaltine which you can see under the commercials heading on the right. they were fun to make and a nice end to the year.

f5 - voxel
F5

phew...! we have just finished our short film for the f5 festival in new york. following a really busy year making commercials we had the opportunity to make an experimental short film of our own. it was a LOT of hard work, even the weather was against us, but we managed to get it finished.
it's a bit odd and we very nearly ran out of cubes but we got to try out some brand new techniques and shoot some more live action, which we love.
check out some stills in the shorts section, or even better see it at the festival which should be great!

outlook
fortis outlook

we started the new year off with a brand new commercial for fortis. what with the economy going rapidly pear-shaped fortis wanted to emphasise the 'two sides to a coin' view of the downturn.
the premise of the ad is that we see exactly the same 4 scenarios twice, each time with a different slant to the voice-over that makes the images read positively, or negatively. clever!
we shot stop motion miniatures to bring the 4 scenarios to life and used a viewmaster style transistion to stylise the repetition.

go green.
flora pro-activ

we recently designed and directed a commercial for flora pro-activ which is now being shown across europe. we wanted to make the testimonial feel fresh, charming and have a bit of a sense of humour. so we made it bright green. with orange bits. job done.
a movie will be in the commercials section soon

new work
fortis

we have recently finished a load of work for european banking giant fortis, consisting of 9 separate jobs, ranging from a 45 second cinema commercial to a 5 second tv ident, using a wide variety of techniques including stop-motion, live action, 3d cg and 2d animation. the first of these can be seen in the commercials section, the rest will follow as soon as we are allowed to show them.

disco!
suspiria_web.jpg

if you are of a trendy disposition and live in london's east end, you will probably spot a few of these charming posters glued to various shop fronts and filthy walls. be sure to have a good look at the wonderfully uplifting image which was illustrated by nick of ubik for our friend, and fellow tea-pot enthusiast, sam, from hear no evil.
who doesn't love pyschedelic disco dance eh?

update...

we thought it was about time we updated the website as we haven't done so for months. we've been really busy pitching and working on a campaign for a big european bank. we will upload stills as soon as we are allowed. In the mean time...
back in april we were approached to liven up the backgrounds of a promo, for uk band Captain, with some pretty animated bits in a paper cut-out style. these would then be tracked into the footage which had already been shot. so, we got out our sharpest photoshop scissors and with a little help from our friends we wove our particular brand of magic and gave life to a bunch of pixels for about 3 minutes. lovely.

fast food
obs_bg_05.jpg

we have just finished our first ad with not to scale and weiden & kennedy.
a sweet little 10 second stop frame job where a range of tasty grub bites chunks out of the observer book of food, getting fatter with every bite.
see the commercials section for stills. a movie will be uploaded soon.

not to scale

we are now represented by not to scale for commercials and music videos. we're looking forward to getting stuck into new and exciting projects, if we can keep away from the many and wonderous distractions that london's fashionable soho has to offer.

mtv global warming
mtv_bg_05.jpg

ubik have just completed a 50 second short film for mtv.
we were given an open brief to make a film to highlight the effects of global warming. it was made, from live action shoot to final output, in just under 4 weeks so we didn't get much sleep. we did however get help from the ever reliable russ street and also james kirkham who helped with a bit of 3d modelling.
we would also like to give a special thanks to jonathan vuillemin for giving up his bank holiday weekend to get it rendered so beautifully for us, to tim green for his lovely photography, to graham staughton for literally making our earth move, and to inga millers for her patience as a producer.
head over to the commercials section for stills. a movie will be uploaded soon.
